Spirituality & Social Justice: An Educational Forum at the Center for Spiritual Life
This spring, CSL launches a new series on spirituality, social justice, and healing. Unique and dynamic Bay Area speakers, including Don Houston (2/28), Jesus Solorio (3/28), and Alice Phipps (4/25), visit the CSL community to reflect on their relationships to a variety of spiritual traditions in this era of social change, upheaval, and movement-building. These special teaching and learning opportunities are open to all.
On April 25th, we welcome Alice Phipps. Please join Alice to discuss Spirituality in the context of current movements for Social Justice. We will examine the history of religious institutions and social oppression, and explore together our beliefs about free will, the Holy Spirit, suffering, Karma, and creating change. What is each of our roles in the world to come? How may we honor our beliefs about the will of the Divine and providence while doing what we can to ease the suffering of others?
Currently earning an M.A. in transpersonal psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, Alice Phipps first completed a B.A. with a social justice emphasis. She is currently active with the Bay Area Queer Anti-Fascist Network, Lovelutionaries Unite! and the Degenderettes working to fight the current tide of ignorance and hate with strong love and community building.
